Installing on MetaTrader 5 · XAU/USD

From download to AUREUM up and running in 6 steps. Before that, a step 0 in case you don't have a broker yet. After that, how to keep it running and how to move it to the MetaTrader VPS so it trades with your computer off.

How to use this guide: pick Windows or Mac in the bar at the top (the instructions change to match your system), do the steps in order and tick the box at the end of each one when you're done. There are 9 boxes: steps 0 to 6, “Keeping it running” and the VPS. They're saved in this browser, so you can close the guide and pick up where you left off another day. If something doesn't turn out the way the guide says, go to “If something isn't working”: it's organized by what you see on screen.

Your package: 1 robot, 42 indicators and 1 checker

Along with this guide you've received your license key (by email, in the format AUR-XXXXXX-XXXXXX) and the link to the ZIP, a compressed file that bundles all the files into one. Download it from homeaureum.com/descargas/AUREUM.zip (it's the same link as in the email). It's saved to your Downloads folder; you'll unzip it in step 2.

When you unzip it you'll see a folder called AUREUM. There are two things inside:

33526_AUREUM.ex5
The algorithm: the one that trades. 1 file, in the Experts folder.
Algorithm
SqADX.ex5 … SqWPR.ex5
42 helper indicators, in the Indicators folder.
Indicators
AUREUM_Comprobar.ex5
The checker (comprobar means “check”): it tests your setup in 6 checks. It doesn't trade. In the Scripts folder.

Guide

A name you'll see a lot: in MetaTrader, robots are called Expert Advisors (or EAs). In this guide, “the robot”, “the algorithm” and “the EA” all mean the same thing: the 33526_AUREUM file.

Why 42 indicators? Four of them are the robot's own (SqKeltnerChannel, SqATR, SqSRPercentRank and SqSessionOHLC): without the first two it won't start. It doesn't use the other 38, but MetaTrader requires them to move the robot to its VPS: if even one is missing, the move to the VPS fails. Copy them all, even if you don't plan to use a VPS today. They take up almost no space and they save you a problem tomorrow.
See the list of the 42 indicators

The robot's own 4 are shown in gold.

They all end in .ex5. You don't need to copy them one by one: in step 2 you copy them all at once.

Two golden rules
  • Unzip the ZIP before you copy anything. Copying straight from inside the ZIP, without unzipping it, causes problems.
  • Don't rename any of the files. MetaTrader looks for each one by its exact name. If you rename one, the robot won't start or can't be moved to the VPS (the checker will tell you which one).

Your broker account (start here if you don't have one)

⏱ 15 min + verification

If you already trade with a broker that offers MetaTrader 5, check off this step and skip to step 1. If “broker” is all Greek to you, this step is for you, and it's easier than it looks.

Who's who Think of three pieces. The broker is the regulated company that holds your money and carries out the buying and selling (like a bank that specializes in markets). MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is the free program you use to connect to your broker account. And AUREUM is the pilot: it trades inside your account, but it never touches your money. It can't withdraw or transfer it: it only opens and closes trades. Deposits and withdrawals are always done by you, directly with the broker.

How to choose a broker: 3 requirements

  1. It must be properly regulated. Look for reputable regulators: CySEC (EU), FCA (UK) or ASIC (Australia). If it operates in Spain, it must be listed in the register of the CNMV (Spain's securities regulator).
  2. It must offer MetaTrader 5. Watch out: many brokers only advertise MetaTrader 4, and MT4 won't work with AUREUM. Their website must say “MetaTrader 5” or “MT5”.
  3. It must offer gold (XAUUSD) with low costs. If it has a “Raw” or “ECN” account (a low spread plus a small fixed commission; the spread is the gap between the buying and the selling price, and it's what the broker charges you on every trade), that's the ideal one for robots. A “Standard” account works too.

Three well-known examples that meet all three requirements: IC Markets and Pepperstone (both with very-low-spread Raw accounts) and XM (very easy to get started with). These are examples, not an investment recommendation: any regulated broker with MT5 and gold will do. In the European Union the law caps gold leverage at 1:20 for retail clients. That's normal and doesn't stop you from using AUREUM.

Opening the account (10 minutes + waiting for verification)

  1. Go to the broker's official website and click “Open account” (or “Sign up”). Fill in your real details.
  2. When it asks about the platform, choose MetaTrader 5 (not MT4!).
  3. Account type: Raw/ECN if there is one; otherwise Standard. Currency: EUR or USD (either works).
  4. Answer the experience questionnaire honestly. It's a legal requirement, not an exam.
  5. Verify your identity: they'll ask for a photo of your ID card or passport and a recent proof of address (a utility bill, a bank statement…). Approval takes anywhere from a few minutes to 1–2 days.
  6. Once the account is approved, deposit funds (bank transfer or card). You don't need to calculate anything: AUREUM sizes each trade to your capital (step 5).
  7. The broker will send you an email with three details: account number (login), password and server (something like “ICMarketsSC-Live05” or “Pepperstone-Live”). Keep that email: it's exactly what MT5 is going to ask you for.
If you're going to use the MetaTrader VPS Some brokers let you log in to MT5 with a one-time password (a code from your phone, “2FA” or “OTP”). Accounts that use one can't be moved to the MetaTrader VPS. If you plan to use it, don't turn that option on.
Demo or live? You can practice this guide on a demo account, but your AUREUM key becomes linked to the first account where you activate it. Activate the robot directly on your live account. If you'd rather try it on a demo first, write to us and we'll set that up for you.

Once your account is approved and you have the broker's email handy, go on to step 1: that's where you install MT5 and connect it to your account.

1

Install MetaTrader 5

⏱ 5 min

MetaTrader 5 is free. If you already have it installed and connected to your broker, check off this step and go on to step 2. No broker yet? Go back up to step 0.

Install it

  1. Download the installer from your broker's website (usually under “Platforms” or “Downloads”) or from metatrader5.com/en/download.
  2. Run the installer (you'll find it in your Downloads folder) and follow the wizard until “Finish”.
  3. Open MT5. It may offer to open a MetaQuotes demo account: close that window without creating one.
  1. Check your broker's website first: many have their own MT5 installer for Mac. If yours doesn't, download the official one from metatrader5.com (Download → macOS). It needs macOS Catalina (10.15.7) or later. It works on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and on Intel Macs.
  2. Open the downloaded file (it's in your Downloads folder) and follow the wizard. If it asks you to install Wine add-ons (“Mono”, “Gecko”), accept: it needs them. If macOS asks “Are you sure you want to open it?”, click Open.
  3. Open MT5 from Applications. The first time it may take a little longer to appear: wait, and don't open it again. If it offers you a MetaQuotes demo account, close that window without creating one.
Mac · good to know On a Mac, MT5 is the same Windows program running inside a layer called Wine. That's why its menus are identical to the Windows ones and this guide works for you as is. The same goes for its shortcuts: inside MT5 you use the Ctrl (control) key, not Cmd; in Finder you keep using Cmd as usual. Whenever the guide says “right-click”: on a trackpad, click with two fingers; with any mouse or trackpad, you can also hold down the Control key while you click. MT5 installs in your macOS language. And if MT5 gives you trouble on your Mac, the MetaTrader VPS is your best ally: your Mac only has to hold out while you set it up, and after that you can turn it off.
MT5 in English This guide uses MT5's menu and button names in English. If your MT5 is in another language, switch it in View → Languages → English and click Restart when MT5 asks. A few texts stay in Spanish whatever language you choose, because they come from AUREUM itself (its settings and its messages). This guide quotes them exactly as they appear on screen, with their English meaning next to them.

Connect MT5 to your broker account

Have the broker's email with your three details handy: account number, password and server (step 0).

  1. In MT5, open the File → Login to Trade Account menu. (If a window to connect to an existing account already popped up when you opened MT5, you can use that one: it asks for the same details.)
  2. In “Login”, type your account number.
  3. In “Password”, type your trading account password and check “Save password” (so MT5 logs back in on its own every time you open it).
  4. In “Server”, pick exactly the name that came in the email. If it isn't in the list, type it in exactly as written.
  5. Click OK.
✓ When you finish you should seeAt the bottom right of MT5, the connection status with numbers (the connection speed, for example “45.67 ms”). In the Toolbox (the strip of tabs along the bottom; if you can't see it: View → Toolbox menu), Trade tab, your balance.
✗ If you get an account or connection error insteadIt's almost always the wrong server: the same broker has dozens of them (Live01, Live05, Demo…) and your password only works on yours. Copy it from the broker's email. Also check that you're not using the password for the broker's website: MT5 needs the password for your trading account, and they're sometimes different. More causes under “MT5 won't connect to my account”. If macOS won't let you open the installer, see this problem.
2

Copy the files to the right place

⏱ 5 min

This is the step where most people go wrong, so let's take it slowly. There's only one rule: each file goes into the MT5 folder with the same name as its folder in the package. What's in Experts goes to Experts, what's in Indicators goes to Indicators, and what's in Scripts goes to Scripts.

📂 MQL5 (MetaTrader 5's own) ├── 📂 Experts │   └── 33526_AUREUM.ex5 ← 1 file: the algorithm ├── 📂 Indicators │   ├── SqADX.ex5 │   ├── SqAroon.ex5 │   ├── … ← all 42 indicators, loose in here │   └── SqWPR.ex5 └── 📂 Scripts     └── AUREUM_Comprobar.ex5 ← 1 file: the checker
1 file to MQL5 ▸ Experts 42 files to MQL5 ▸ Indicators 1 file to MQL5 ▸ Scripts

All three folders already exist in your MT5 and already have other things in them (for example, the samples that come with MetaTrader). That's normal: don't delete anything, just add.

A · Get the two windows ready

  1. Unzip the ZIP. In your Downloads folder, right-click AUREUM.zip → “Extract All…” → “Extract”. A window opens with the extracted folder.
  2. Unzip the ZIP. In your Downloads folder, double-click AUREUM.zip. An AUREUM folder appears next to it. (If you downloaded it with Safari, it may already be unzipped: if you see the AUREUM folder in Downloads and no .zip, use that folder.)
  3. Go into the package folder until you reach AUREUM ▸ Para_MetaTrader5 ▸ MQL5 (if there's another AUREUM folder inside AUREUM, go into that one too). You'll see Experts, Indicators and Scripts. This is the package window.
  4. Open MT5's folder in another window. In MT5: File → Open Data Folder menu (shortcut Ctrl+Shift+D). Another File Explorer window opens with several folders; one of them is MQL5. Always use this menu: don't look for the folder by hand, because there are several similar ones.
  5. Go into the MQL5 folder in that window. This is the MT5 window. Put the two windows side by side.
  6. Open MT5's folder in another window. Click Finder (the smiling face in the Dock), open a new window (Cmd+N) and go to the Go → Go to Folder… menu (Cmd+Shift+G). Paste this path and press Return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/net.metaquotes.wine.metatrader5/drive_c/Program Files/MetaTrader 5/MQL5

You land straight in MQL5, with Experts, Indicators and Scripts in view. That folder lives inside Library, which your Mac hides: that's why it's safer to get there with this path than to look for it by hand. This is the MT5 window. Put the two windows side by side. Does it say the folder doesn't exist? See this problem.

B · Copy the robot

  1. In the package window, go into Experts and click 33526_AUREUM.ex5.
  2. Copy it: Ctrl+CCmd+C.
  3. In the MT5 window, go into Experts and paste: Ctrl+VCmd+V.
  4. Go back up to MQL5 in both windows, with the ← arrow (or <) at the top left of each window.

C · Copy all 42 indicators at once

  1. In the package window, go into Indicators.
  2. Select everything in it: click one file and press Ctrl+A. At the bottom left it should say “42 items selected”.click one file and press Cmd+A. They all get selected. If you want to count them, turn on the status bar (View → Show Status Bar menu): it should say 42 of 42 selected.
  3. Copy them: Ctrl+CCmd+C.
  4. In the MT5 window, go into Indicators and paste: Ctrl+VCmd+V. If it asks whether you want to replace files that already exist (that happens when you update), choose to replace them.
  5. Go back up to MQL5 in both windows, with the ← arrow (or <) at the top left of each window.
Copy the contents, not the folder Don't drag the package's Indicators folder onto MT5's Indicators folder. On a Mac, Finder would offer you “Replace” and would delete the indicators that come with MT5.You'd end up with the files inside a subfolder, or mixed up where they don't belong. Go into the folder, select everything and copy, as in the steps above.

D · Copy the checker

  1. In the package window, go into Scripts and copy AUREUM_Comprobar.ex5.
  2. In the MT5 window, go into Scripts and paste it.

E · Restart MT5 and check

  1. Close MT5 completely: File → Exit menu.
  2. Open it again.
  3. Open the Navigator: View → Navigator menu (shortcut: Ctrl+N, on a Mac too). It's the panel on the left.
  4. Expand its three sections with the little arrow next to each one: Expert Advisors, Indicators and Scripts.
What the Navigator should look like (shortened)Navigator

 │ ├─ … (a long list of “Sq…”)
 │ └─ SqWPR

     └─ AUREUM_Comprobar
✓ When you finish you should see33526_AUREUM under Expert Advisors, the list of Sq… indicators under Indicators and AUREUM_Comprobar under Scripts. When you finish step 5, the checker will confirm that all 42 are there (“[2/6] OK — 42 indicadores presentes…”, 42 indicators present).
Can't see the .ex5 extension? That's normal: WindowsmacOS hides file extensions, so you'll just see SqATR, 33526_AUREUM, etc. They're the same files: copy them all the same, without renaming anything.

Allow your license to be validated

⏱ 1 min

AUREUM checks your license against our server. For security, MT5 only allows that connection if you authorize it, just once. Without this step, the robot sits on the chart but doesn't open trades: it tells you so with the AUREUM E01 message.

  1. In MT5, open the Tools → Options menu (shortcut: Ctrl+O, on a Mac too).
  2. Click the Expert Advisors tab.
  3. Check the “Allow WebRequest for listed URL:” box.
  4. Double-click the last row of the list below it, the one that says “add new URL like 'https://www.mql5.com'”. It becomes editable.
  5. Paste this exact address (use the “Copy” button and, in MT5, right-click → Paste; on a Mac, two-finger click or Control-click) and press Enter:
Options
Server Charts Expert Advisors Notifications Community
Allow WebRequest for listed URL:
https://servidor-aureum.onrender.com

Exactly as it is: with https://, no trailing slash and no spaces. (The window has more tabs; only the ones that matter are shown here.)

  1. Click OK to save. You won't have to do this again.

On that same tab you'll see “Allow DLL imports”. Leave it unchecked: AUREUM doesn't need it.

✓ When you finish you should seeWhen you open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors again, the box checked and https://servidor-aureum.onrender.com in the list.
✗ If it didn't saveRepeat the steps and make sure you press Enter after pasting and then click OK (not the window's X).
4

Open the right chart: gold on H1

⏱ 1 min

AUREUM trades only gold against the US dollar, on 1-hour candles (H1): each candle on the chart sums up one hour of price movement. That “how often” setting is called the timeframe (in MT5's menus, “Timeframes”). If you put it on another symbol or another timeframe, it doesn't attach and warns you with a pop-up window: AUREUM E11 if the chart isn't gold and AUREUM E12 if it isn't on H1.

  1. Open Market Watch: View → Market Watch menu (shortcut: Ctrl+M, on a Mac too).
  2. Find gold. Depending on your broker it's called XAUUSD, GOLD or has a suffix (for example XAUUSD.m). It's the same instrument. Not there? Click the last row of the list, the one that says “click to add...”, type XAU and pick gold. Seeing more than one? See this problem.
  3. Right-click gold → “Chart Window”. Its chart opens.
  4. Set the timeframe to H1: the H1 button on the top toolbar, or right-click the chart → Timeframes → 1 Hour.
✓ When you finish you should seeAt the top left of the chart, the gold symbol's name followed by H1 (for example “XAUUSD, H1”), and 1-hour candles.
✗ If notIf it shows another timeframe (M15, H4…), click the H1 button. If your broker doesn't offer gold on that account, ask them how to enable it.
One chart only Don't put AUREUM on several charts at once, or on two computers with the same account. One gold chart on H1 is enough, and that's how it's designed.
5

Activate AUREUM with your key and your lot size

⏱ 4 min
  1. In the Navigator, expand Expert Advisors.
  2. Drag 33526_AUREUM onto the gold chart on H1: click its name, hold the button down, move it over the chart and let go. Its settings window opens.
  3. Common tab: check the “Allow Algo Trading” box (the exact wording can vary slightly between MT5 versions). Without it, the robot loads but doesn't trade.
  4. Inputs tab: double-click the value in the first row, “Clave de licencia AUREUM (AUR-XXXXXX-XXXXXX)” (AUREUM license key), which says PEGA-AQUI-TU-CLAVE (paste your key here).
  5. Paste your full key, copied from the email, and press Enter.
  6. Check that the “Modo de lote” (lot mode) row says LOT_REFERENCIA. Don't touch anything else.
33526_AUREUM — Inputs
Clave de licencia AUREUM (AUR-XXXXXX-XXXXXX)AUR-XXXXXX-XXXXXX← first row (AUREUM license key): paste your key here, with no spaces
mmLots0.1← don't change it: it only counts with LOT_MANUAL
mmMultiplier1.0← don't change it
Modo de loteLOT_REFERENCIA← lot mode: leave it like this, the lot is calculated for you

The real list is longer: leave the other rows as they come.

Before you click OK, two things
  • Your key becomes linked to the MT5 account where you activate it. Activate it on the account you're really going to trade with. If you ever switch accounts or brokers, you can unlink it yourself at homeaureum.com/en/license.
  • The first check takes a few seconds. If our server is “asleep”, you'll see AUREUM E02: sin conexión con el servidor (no connection to the server). Don't do anything: the robot stays on the chart and retries on its own (it waits 1 minute, then 5, then 30, and after that it tries every hour). If you don't want to wait, press F7 with the chart selected and then OK: that forces an immediate check (on a MacBook, fn+F7).
  1. Click OK.
  2. Look at the “Algo Trading” button on MT5's top toolbar (it has those words on it and a colored icon). It must be green. If it's red, click it once.
✓ When you finish you should seeAt the top right of the chart, 33526_AUREUM with an icon next to it. At the top left, after a few seconds in which it may say “AUREUM · comprobando licencia…” (checking license…):
Top-left corner of the chart (shortened)AUREUM · licencia OK hasta 2026.10.08 14:00
Oro H1 · Magic 11111 · lote referencia
That reads “license OK until…” and “gold H1 · magic number 11111 · reference lot”. The first line may show up twice (one is the chart comment and the other is the robot's panel): that's normal. “Magic 11111” is the internal number the robot uses to recognize its own trades: you don't need to do anything with it. The date falls about 72 hours from now (sooner if your subscription ends before then). The date in the chart comment doesn't update while MT5 stays open: after a restart it may show the saved permit's date and, after a few days, a date that has already passed. That's fine: the panel's date does update, and what matters is that it says “licencia OK”. The time is in UTC, so it may not match your clock (in New York, for example, UTC is 4 or 5 hours ahead).
✗ If it says “AUREUM E0x: …” insteadLook up that code under “If something isn't working”: E01, E02, E03 or E04. If a pop-up showed E11 or E12, the chart isn't the right one.

The lot: leave it on LOT_REFERENCIA

The lot is the size of each trade. The Modo de lote (lot mode) row has two options:

  1. LOT_REFERENCIA (reference lot: it comes set like this, and it's what we recommend). AUREUM calculates the lot on every trade: 0.01 lots for every 1,000 of capital (your balance, plus or minus whatever your open trades are gaining or losing), rounded to the hundredth. It never goes below your broker's minimum lot or above 1.0. Examples: with 5,000 → 0.05; with 1,000 → 0.01; with 500 → 0.01 (the minimum). If your account grows, the lot grows with it; if it shrinks, so does the lot. You don't have to calculate anything.
  2. LOT_MANUAL. Only if you want to set the size yourself. Then what counts is mmLots × mmMultiplier. With LOT_MANUAL you can pick a lot that's too big for your capital and get the “Not enough money” warning.

Only if you choose LOT_MANUAL: lot size by capital

A prudent rule, the same one LOT_REFERENCIA applies on its own: 0.01 for every 1,000. Too big for your capital and MT5 will reject the orders; too aggressive and a losing streak hurts.

Your capitalSuggested lot (mmLots)Notes
€200 – €1,0000.01The smallest possible. At this level gold is risky: be careful.
€1,000 – €2,0000.01A reasonable starting point.
€2,000 – €3,0000.02
€3,000 – €5,0000.03
€5,000 – €10,0000.05
€10,000 or more0.10The strategy's reference size.

Rough figures, not financial advice. Gold can move $30–50 in a day; start small and only go up if you understand the risk. You can lose part or all of your capital.

Check that it's trading

⏱ 3 min

Go through these five signs. If they all check out, AUREUM is up and running:

Toolbox → Experts (what you should see, shortened)33526_AUREUM (XAUUSD,H1) ---VERBOSE--- … Starting the EA
33526_AUREUM (XAUUSD,H1) AUREUM licencia OK hasta 2026.10.08 14:00 (token hasta 2026.10.08 14:00)

“licencia OK hasta … (token hasta …)” = license OK until … (token valid until …).

Recommended final step: run the checker

It takes two minutes and confirms that everything is fine, including the 42 indicators. The instructions are under “The checker” (when you're done, come back here with the link you'll find there or with your browser's “Back” button). It should finish with a pop-up that says “AUREUM: 6/6 OK”. On weekends, on holidays and during gold's daily break (about an hour every day) test 6 can fail because no prices are coming in: it means nothing.

What happens if the license isn't OK The robot never removes itself from the chart because of a license problem. While the status is E01–E04 it doesn't open new trades, but it keeps managing the ones already open (moving the stop to the entry price, the Friday close and removing expired pending orders) and retries on its own. With the license OK, every hour it renews a permit that's valid for 72 hours and saves it on your computer: if the internet goes down, it keeps trading until that permit expires.
Done Installation complete. Now decide where AUREUM is going to live: on your computer (next section, “Keeping it running”) or on the MetaTrader VPS, which trades with your computer off.
✦

Keeping it running: what must stay on and how to keep an eye on it

Installing is 20% of the job. What makes the difference is that AUREUM stays alive day after day, and that you can tell in 30 seconds whether it's trading.

Going to use the MetaTrader VPS? Then keeping your computer on doesn't apply to you: go straight to the VPS section. The parts of this section about the switches and the logs still apply.

What must stay on (if it trades on your computer)

  1. MT5 open, with the gold chart and AUREUM on it. You can minimize MT5 or look at other charts, but don't close that chart, don't remove the robot and don't close MT5 (not even with the window's red button). Don't change that chart's timeframe: if you take it off H1, the robot warns you with AUREUM E12 and removes itself; set H1 again and drag it on again.
  2. The computer on and not going to sleep. The screen can turn off; the computer can't. On a Mac: open System Settings, type “sleep” in the search box on the left and turn on the “Prevent automatic sleeping…” option (on a laptop, the one that says “on power adapter”, and keep it plugged in). A MacBook with the lid closed goes to sleep: leave it open. On Windows 11: Settings → System → Power & battery (on desktops, “Power”) → Screen and sleep (“Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts” in recent versions) → “When plugged in, put my device to sleep after”: Never. On Windows 10: Settings → System → Power & sleep → “Sleep”: Never. On a laptop, also: Control Panel → Power Options → “Choose what closing the lid does” → Do nothing, or leave the lid open.
  3. A stable internet connection. If it drops for a while, MT5 reconnects on its own. Open trades keep their stop loss and take profit on the broker's server, not on your computer: an outage doesn't leave them unprotected. While the outage lasts, the robot can't move the stop to the entry price or do the automatic Friday close (at 20:40 broker server time, the time you see in Market Watch). The license rides it out: only after 3 days in a row without internet would it stop opening new trades, and it would start opening them again as soon as it reconnects.
  4. If you restart MT5 or the computer, when you open MT5 the chart comes back with AUREUM on it (MT5 remembers) and the robot checks its license again. There's no need to drag it on again. If it was off for more than 3 days and our server is slow to wake up, you may see AUREUM E02 for a few minutes while it retries on its own; to skip the wait, F7 → OK.
  5. Weekends: the gold market closes on Friday night and reopens on Sunday night. You don't need to touch anything.

The two algo trading switches

  1. The main one: the “Algo Trading” button on the top toolbar. Green = robots can trade. Red = none of them trade. It's your pause button: the robot stays on the chart, but it can't trade.
  2. The robot's own: the “Allow Algo Trading” box on AUREUM's Common tab (step 5). Without it, AUREUM doesn't trade even with the button green. To get back to that window: F7 with the chart selected (fn+F7 on a MacBook).
  3. What happens when you pause: AUREUM stops opening trades and also stops managing the open ones. Open trades don't close on their own: they keep the stop loss and take profit they have at the broker. Any pending orders it had placed (buy or sell “stop” orders) stay at the broker and can still be filled. If you're going to stop for a few days, do it with no open trades, or close them and delete the pending orders yourself from the Trade tab (right-click each one).
  4. What it looks like: next to the name 33526_AUREUM, at the top right of the chart, the icon looks crossed out or gray if either switch is off. A license problem does not change that icon: it shows up as text at the top left (“AUREUM E0x: …”).

Experts and Journal: what to look at and what's normal

Open the Toolbox (View → Toolbox menu; shortcut: Ctrl+T, on a Mac too), the strip of tabs along the bottom. Four of them matter to you:

  1. Experts: what AUREUM says. When all is well, “AUREUM licencia OK hasta …” (license OK until …). If something fails, a line “AUREUM E0x: …” with the code. Messages that are not errors: “Order with these parameters already exists” (it already has a trade open), “… at incorrect price … (this is NOT an error)” (it discarded an order that didn't apply), “Moving SL 2 BE” (it moved the stop to the entry price) and “Exit On Friday” (the Friday close).
  2. Journal: what MT5 says (always in English). The connection to the broker, the robot loading (“expert 33526_AUREUM (XAUUSD,H1) loaded successfully”) and the result of every order.
  3. Trade: what's open right now, with its profit or loss in real time.
  4. History: what's already closed. AUREUM's trades carry the comment 33526 in the Comment column (if you can't see it, right-click the table header and turn it on). Look at the opening line: the closing one may show “[sl …]” or “[tp …]”.
Normal and not normal Normal: many hours, even days, without trades. Not normal: red lines that keep repeating in Experts or the Journal, a crossed-out icon or “AUREUM E0x”. Those do need a look under “If something isn't working”.

Trade with your computer off: the MetaTrader 5 VPS

⏱ 15 min

A VPS is a computer in the cloud that's always on. MetaTrader has its own, “MQL5 Virtual Hosting” (you'll also see it called “MetaTrader VPS”). You rent it from your own MT5 in a few clicks, and MT5 copies your gold chart with AUREUM to it. That copy is called migrating. From then on AUREUM trades there, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, even if you close MT5 and turn off your computer.

Three names you'll see in MT5 for the same thing: VPS, “Virtual Hosting” and “Virtual Server”. And two for sending it over: the first time MT5 calls it “migrate” and after that “synchronize”; either way, it means sending your chart with AUREUM from your computer to the VPS.

The whole process at a glance
  1. A · On your computer, go through the checklist (AUREUM has to work there first).
  2. B · Create your free MQL5.community account and connect it to MT5.
  3. C · Rent the VPS from MT5 and pay.
  4. D · Migrate: MT5 sends your chart with AUREUM to the VPS.
  5. E · Check the VPS's log for “licencia OK” (license OK). Once you see it, you can close MT5 and turn off your computer.
After that, F, G and H tell you what not to do, how to change something and how to stop or cancel.
Why it's the simplest option (especially on a Mac)
  • You don't install anything new or operate a remote Windows desktop: everything is done from your MT5.
  • Your computer is only needed to set it up and migrate. After that you can turn it off. On a Mac it's the best solution: you no longer depend on your Mac being on, awake and running MT5.
  • MT5 picks the server closest to your broker on its own, so orders get there faster.
  • The VPS uses the same broker account, so it doesn't use up another account on your AUREUM license.

How much it costs

PlanPriceWorks out per month to
1 month15 USD15 USD
3 months42 USD14 USD
6 months79 USDabout 13 USD
12 months153 USDabout 12.8 USD

MetaQuotes prices as of October 5, 2026, before VAT. Any VAT that applies in your country is added on top: in Spain, for example, the 15 USD month comes to 18.15 USD. Check the current price in the rental window before you pay: that's where the final price appears. Some brokers give it away (it shows up as “Sponsored by broker”): ask yours. AUREUM doesn't charge anything for this: you pay MetaQuotes, the company behind MetaTrader.

What you need

A · Before migrating: checklist

The VPS takes an exact copy of what you have in your MT5. Go through this first, on your computer:

B · Connect your MQL5 account to MT5

Careful, this is a different account: it isn't your broker account or your AUREUM license. It's your account on MetaTrader's website, and it's the one you use to pay for the VPS.

  1. If you don't have an MQL5.community account, create one for free at www.mql5.com (the sign-up button at the top right) and follow what the confirmation email asks you to do. Write down your username and your password.
  2. In MT5, Tools → Options menu → Community tab.
  3. Type your MQL5 login (the username you chose when you signed up, rather than your email) and your password, and click OK.

If you skip this, MT5 will ask you to log in with your MQL5 account when you go to pay.

C · Rent and pay

  1. In the Navigator (Ctrl+N if you can't see it), expand Accounts: you'll see your broker's server and, under it, your account number. Right-click your account number (on a Mac, two-finger click or Control-click) → “Register a Virtual Server”. (The Tools → MQL5 Virtual Hosting menu works too. Not there? See this problem.)
  2. The VPS window opens. MT5 picks the server on its own, the one closest to your broker, and compares its delay with your computer's. There's no need to change it. Don't be surprised if it's in another country: for a European broker it may be London or New York.
  3. Under “Select a rental period:”, pick the plan. To start, 1 month.
  4. Look at the final price: the window says “Prices include VAT (…%)”.
  5. Leave the “Automatically renew subscription with sufficient funds and terminal activity” box checked if you don't want it to stop. It's the only way to renew: there's no manual renewal.
  6. Click “Rent”, choose card as the payment method and follow the steps. (If you choose to pay with your “MQL5” balance and you don't have any, the payment fails. If a payment page opens in your browser, finish paying there and then go back to MT5.) By renting it you accept MetaQuotes' service rules.

D · Migrate AUREUM to the VPS

  1. After you pay, a “Congratulations!” window appears with four options. Choose “Migrate experts: account, charts, experts, indicators and settings”. (“Migrate all” works too.)
  2. Click “Migrate”.
  3. Wait a few seconds for the “Migration successful” notice.

Did you choose “Migrate later”? When you're ready: in the Navigator, under Accounts, find your VPS (it carries the server's name, for example “VPS London LD4 07”) → right-click → “Synchronize experts, indicators”.

Toolbox → Journal in your MT5 (“Virtual Hosting” lines)…: 43 files prepared to synchronize, total size … Mb
…: automated trading disabled after migration and enabled on virtual hosting
…: migration processed
✓ When you finish you should see“Migration successful” and, in the Journal, “migration processed”. If AUREUM is the only thing on your charts, that's 43 files: the robot and its 42 indicators. Also, in your MT5 the “Algo Trading” button turns red on its own: that's correct. Now the VPS trades, not your computer.
✗ If you get “Migration failed, please check the journal of your platform”Read the Journal and look up the cause under “The migration to the VPS failed”.

E · Check that AUREUM is working on the VPS

The VPS has no screen: your chart is there, but you can't see it. What happens on it shows up in its log, which you read from your MT5. Careful: the chart you still see on your computer, with its panel, is your computer's copy, not the VPS.

  1. In the Toolbox, open the VPS tab. Under “Environment” you should see the robot, with its XAUUSD chart and H1.
  2. Click “Journal Viewer”. (Or: Navigator → right-click your VPS → “Journals”.)
  3. Choose the Experts log (instead of “Terminal”).
  4. Type AUREUM in the filter, leave today's date and click “Request”.
The VPS's “Experts” log (what you should see)33526_AUREUM (XAUUSD,H1) AUREUM licencia OK hasta 2026.10.08 14:00 (token hasta 2026.10.08 14:00)
✓ You should see“AUREUM licencia OK hasta …” (license OK until …). The time on that line is in UTC, and the log's own times are the VPS's: they don't have to match your clock.
✗ If you see “AUREUM E0x” or nothing at allE01: the URL wasn't allowed → fix it like this. E02 right after migrating: wait a few minutes, it retries on its own. If there's nothing from the robot at all, the chart didn't travel: see this problem.

If you see “AUREUM: no se pudo guardar la gracia (err …)” (couldn't save the grace permit), it isn't a failure: the robot keeps trading on the permit it holds in memory (that line may repeat every hour, at each renewal). Nor is “AUREUM: fallo de renovación (E02 …), se mantiene la gracia hasta …” (renewal failed, grace period kept until …): it retries on its own.

Done: you can turn your computer off now Once the VPS log shows “licencia OK”, close MT5 on your computer (File → Exit) and shut it down if you like: AUREUM keeps trading on the VPS. If you open MT5 on your computer again some other day, you'll see the chart with AUREUM and the “Algo Trading” button red: that's correct. Don't remove that robot from the chart (you'll need it to change something later, part G) and don't turn the button green (part F).

Days later, the VPS log doesn't fill up with messages: AUREUM writes “licencia OK” when it starts and whenever its status changes, so a day with no new lines isn't a bad sign; an “AUREUM E0x” line is. For day-to-day checks it's easier to keep an eye on it from your phone, without turning on your computer:

F · What NOT to do

Only one installation trading
  • Don't turn “Algo Trading” back on on your computer while the VPS is running. AUREUM would trade twice on the same account (your computer and the VPS) and you'd see duplicate orders. The simplest thing: close MT5 on your computer (File → Exit).
  • Don't synchronize without the robot on the chart. The VPS would be left empty, without AUREUM, and you'd keep paying for it.
  • Don't use the same account on two VPSs, or on a VPS and another computer with AUREUM active.

G · Changing something later (lot, key, mode)

You don't touch the VPS directly: you change things on your computer and send them over again. It always goes from your computer to the VPS, never the other way around.

  1. Open MT5 on your computer, connected to the same account. The gold chart is still there with AUREUM (and the “Algo Trading” button red: leave it that way).
  2. Change what you need: F7 on the chart (fn+F7 on a MacBook) → Inputs → OK.
  3. In the Navigator, under Accounts, right-click your VPS → “Synchronize experts, indicators”. (Or on the VPS tab, under “Last migration”.)
  4. Check the Journal for the “migration processed” line.

Each sync restarts MT5 on the VPS: it takes a few seconds and it's normal. After that, AUREUM checks its license again.

H · Stopping, canceling or going back to your computer

Alternative: a Windows VPS from a provider or from your broker

If you'd rather have a Windows machine in the cloud (some brokers give one away if you keep a certain balance), that works too. It's more work, because you install everything inside it:

  1. Get a VPS with Windows and 2 GB of RAM or more, in a data center close to your broker's.
  2. Connect to it with Remote Desktop. On a Mac, with Microsoft's free Windows App.
  3. Inside the VPS, follow this guide from step 1 with the Windows instructions, as if it were another computer.
  4. Close the remote desktop window without shutting down the VPS. And don't leave AUREUM active on your computer at the same time.
✦

After installing: everything is self-service

You don't depend on anyone for the day-to-day. Save these two links:

Your license: homeaureum.com/en/license

Check your license's status and expiry date, recover your key if you lose it (we resend it to the email you bought with) and switch MT5 accounts if you move to a new broker or account, with a code we send to your email. On the base plan you can switch accounts once every 30 days; on Premium, as often as you like.

Your robot's traffic light (same page, “Status” tab)

When you look up your license you'll see “Robot status” with a color and the “Robot's last connection”. It's what our server knows about your robot from its last connection:

  1. GREEN: the robot has connected in the last 14 hours and is set up correctly. Nothing to do.
  2. AMBER: there's something to check:
    • the chart isn't gold or isn't on H1 (step 4);
    • the robot reports an E01–E04 status (see the Experts tab and “If something isn't working”);
    • or it's gone between 14 and 36 hours without connecting (is MT5, the computer or the VPS off?).
  3. RED: it's gone more than 36 hours without connecting, or it has never connected. Almost always: MT5 closed, the computer asleep or the VPS stopped.

If the traffic light turns amber or red, we send you a warning email (at most one per reason, and another one if a week goes by without it connecting). Once you've fixed it you don't need to tell us: it goes back to green on its own at the next connection. If you use the MetaTrader VPS, remember the catch from the VPS section: with MT5 open on your computer, the traffic light can't tell one from the other.

Your subscription: Stripe billing portal

In the billing portal (you sign in with the email you bought with, and Stripe sends you a login link) you can change your card, download invoices, switch between monthly and annual billing and cancel the renewal whenever you want. The license stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and the robot doesn't even notice the payments.

The email matters Both portals work with the email you bought with. If you ever change your email, write to us and we'll update it on your license.
?

If something isn't working

Find your symptom and open the solution. Almost everything gets solved here. If you don't know where to start, start with the checker. When you're done, your browser's “Back” button takes you back to the step you were on.

The checker: the first test when something's wrong

AUREUM_Comprobar (comprobar means “check”) is a small program that tests your setup in 6 checks, tells you which one fails and stops on its own. It doesn't trade, doesn't change anything and doesn't link your key to any account. It's the first thing we'll ask you for if you write to support.

  1. In the Navigator, expand Scripts and drag AUREUM_Comprobar onto the gold chart on H1 (the same one the robot is on; having both on it is fine).
  2. In its window, Common tab: check “Allow Algo Trading”. Otherwise test 4 fails.
  3. Inputs tab: paste your key into “Clave de licencia AUREUM” (AUREUM license key).
  4. Click OK and wait a few seconds.
Toolbox → Experts (all good)[1/6] OK — servidor HTTP 200: Servidor AUREUM … OK …
[6/6] OK — local 14:00 · GMT 12:00 (offset 120 min) · servidor 15:00 · último tick hace 2 s
Alert: AUREUM: 6/6 OK

In English: [1/6] server HTTP 200: AUREUM server … OK · [2/6] 42 indicators present (the robot's 4 and the ones the MT5 VPS asks for) · [3/6] XAUUSD H1 chart · [4/6] algo trading allowed · [5/6] key … status “active” · this account is already linked · [6/6] local time 14:00 · GMT 12:00 · broker server 15:00 · last tick 2 s ago.

A pop-up also shows the result: “AUREUM: 6/6 OK”, or “AUREUM: Fallo N de 6: …” (N of 6 failed: …) with what's failing. The line-by-line detail stays in the Experts tab, where a failed test says FALLO (failed) instead of OK.

TestWhat it checksIf it fails
1/6 ServerThat our license server answers from your MT5.“URL no autorizada en MT5…” (URL not allowed in MT5) → repeat step 3. “sin conexión con el servidor (err …)” (no connection to the server) → check your internet or wait a minute: the server may be waking up.
2/6 IndicatorsThat all 42 indicators are in MQL5 ▸ Indicators: the robot's own 4 and the ones the MT5 VPS asks for.It tells you which ones are missing and how many (“(1 de 42)”, 1 of 42). If it says “— sin ellos el robot no funciona” (without them the robot doesn't work), one of the robot's 4 is missing. If it says “— el robot funcionará, pero el VPS de MT5 no podrá migrarlo” (the robot will work, but the MT5 VPS won't be able to migrate it), only some of the others are missing. Either way: copy everything in the package's Indicators folder (step 2, part C), restart MT5 and run it again. If more than 8 are missing, you'll see “y N más” (and N more) and another line with the full list.
3/6 ChartThat the chart is gold (XAU or GOLD in the name) and on H1.Open the right chart (step 4) and run the checker there.
4/6 Algo tradingThree permissions: the “Algo Trading” button, the checker's own box and that your account allows robots.“botón «Algo Trading» del terminal apagado” (the terminal's Algo Trading button is off) → turn it green. “… sin marcar en el programa” (… unchecked in the program) → check the box on the Common tab of the checker and run it again (and check the robot's too: F7 → Common). “la cuenta no permite EAs (bróker)” (the account doesn't allow EAs: broker) → ask your broker.
5/6 KeyThat your key has the format AUR-XXXXXX-XXXXXX and what the server says about it. It only looks things up: it doesn't link anything.“clave con formato incorrecto” (key in the wrong format) → copy it from the email, with no spaces. Status “caducada” (expired) or “desactivada” (deactivated) → check your subscription at homeaureum.com/en/license. “inexistente” (non-existent) → the key is mistyped. If it says OK but “cuenta aún sin vincular … libres 0” (account not linked yet … 0 free), your key is already in use on another account: unlink it on that same page before you put the robot on.
6/6 ClockYour time, GMT and the broker's time, and that prices are coming in (last price less than 10 minutes ago).“sin ticks recientes (mercado cerrado o feed parado)” (no recent ticks: market closed or feed stopped): that's normal on weekends, on holidays and during gold's daily break (about an hour every day); run it again while the market is open. If it happens outside those times, MT5 isn't getting prices: check the connection to the broker.
For support If you're still stuck after the checker, take a screenshot of the Experts tab showing the six [n/6] lines and send it to us (Support section).

Did you come here from another part of the guide? Go back to step 6, to the VPS checklist, or press “Back” in your browser. The checker stops on its own: there's no need to remove it from the chart.

Installation · connection and files
MT5 won't connect to my account (no numbers at the bottom right)

Most common cause: the server or the password isn't the right one.

  1. Wrong server. The same broker has dozens of them (Live01, Live05, Demo…) and your password only works on yours. Go back to File → Login to Trade Account (step 1) and copy the server exactly as it appears in the broker's email.
  2. The website password instead of the trading one. MT5 needs the password for your trading account, and it's sometimes different from the one you use on the broker's website.
  3. An MT4 account. A MetaTrader 4 account won't work in MT5. Ask your broker for an MT5 account (step 0).
  4. If it still won't connect, ask your broker: the account may not be approved yet.

If it connects but you get “Trade disabled” when it trades, see this other problem (investor password).

A panel has disappeared: the Navigator, the Toolbox or Market Watch

They're easy to close by accident, but nothing is lost. You bring them back from the View menu:

  • Navigator (the panel on the left, with the robot, the indicators and the scripts): View → Navigator or Ctrl+N.
  • Toolbox (the strip of tabs along the bottom: Trade, History, Experts, Journal…): View → Toolbox or Ctrl+T.
  • Market Watch (the list of symbols with their prices): View → Market Watch or Ctrl+M.

These shortcuts use Ctrl on a Mac too.

I can't see AUREUM (33526_AUREUM) in the Navigator

Cause: the file isn't where MT5 looks for it, or MT5 hasn't reread the folders yet.

  1. Restart MT5 completely (File → Exit and open it again). Alternative: right-click in the Navigator → Refresh.
  2. Check that 33526_AUREUM.ex5 is loose inside MQL5 ▸ Experts: not in plain MQL5, not in a subfolder, not inside the ZIP.
  3. Did you get to the folder with File → Open Data Folder? If you looked for it by hand, you may have copied it into another MT5 installation (or into MT4). Repeat step 2 using that menu.
  4. Did you get to the folder with Go → Go to Folder… and the path from step 2? If you looked for it by hand, you almost certainly copied it into another folder. Repeat step 2 with the exact path (“Copy” button).
  5. Check that it wasn't renamed when you downloaded it (for example 33526_AUREUM (1).ex5). It must be named exactly 33526_AUREUM.ex5.
“cannot load custom indicator” in Experts, or the robot removes itself when you put it on

Cause: an indicator is missing, renamed or in the wrong folder. The robot can't start without SqKeltnerChannel and SqATR.

  1. Run the checker: test 2 tells you exactly which ones are missing.
  2. Copy everything in the package's Indicators folder into MQL5 ▸ Indicators (step 2, part C). Careful: Indicators, not Experts. It's the most common mistake.
  3. Restart MT5 and drag the robot onto the chart again.
I copied the files but they don't show up after restarting
  1. Unzip the ZIP first (right-click → Extract Alldouble-click it) and copy from the extracted folder, not from inside the ZIP.
  2. Check that the copied files are bigger than 0 KB (that the download finished properly). If any of them is 0 KB, download the ZIP again.
  3. If you have several copies of MT5 installed (or MT4 and MT5), open the data folder from the MT5 you actually use.
  4. Check that you didn't copy the whole folder: inside MQL5 ▸ Indicators there shouldn't be another Indicators folder with the Sq… files in it. If there is, move the files up into the outer one.
Putting it on the chart · E11 and E12
I can't find gold (XAUUSD), or there's more than one
  1. Depending on your broker it's called XAUUSD, GOLD or has a suffix (for example XAUUSD.m). It's the same instrument.
  2. Not in Market Watch? Click its last row, the one that says “click to add...”, type XAU and pick gold.
  3. More than one? Use the one whose prices are moving. If you're not sure, ask your broker which one goes with your account type: sometimes only one of them can be traded (pick the wrong one and you'll see “Trade disabled”).
  4. None at all? Your account doesn't have gold: ask your broker how to enable it.
Pop-up “AUREUM E11: abre este EA en el gráfico del oro (XAUUSD)” (open this EA on the gold chart)

Cause: you put it on a chart that isn't gold (the symbol name must contain XAU or GOLD). The robot doesn't attach.

Fix: open the gold chart (step 4) and drag it on again.

Pop-up “AUREUM E12: pon el gráfico en H1” (set the chart to H1)

Cause: the chart is on another timeframe (M15, H4…). It also happens if you change the timeframe with the robot on: it removes itself and warns you.

Fix: click the H1 button (or right-click the chart → Timeframes → 1 Hour) and drag the robot on again.

I put it on two charts at once

AUREUM is designed for one chart only. To remove it from the extra one: right-click that chart → “Expert List” → select it → Remove.

License and connection · E01 to E04

The code shows up at the top left of the chart and in the Experts tab (“AUREUM E0x: …”), and the line includes “sin operaciones nuevas” (no new trades). With any of them the robot stays on the chart and manages what's open, but it doesn't open new trades until it's back to “licencia OK” (license OK). To force a check: F7 on the chart → OK.

“AUREUM E01: autoriza la URL del servidor en MT5” (allow the server URL in MT5; error 4014)

Cause: MT5's error 4014 means exactly this: the URL is missing from the WebRequest list. It isn't an internet problem or a problem with your key.

AUREUM E01: autoriza la URL del servidor en MT5 — sin operaciones nuevas (err 4014)
  1. Repeat step 3. The URL must be https://servidor-aureum.onrender.com, with no spaces or trailing slash, with the box checked and OK clicked. Better with this guide's “Copy” button.
  2. Press F7 on the chart → OK. Within a few seconds it should say “licencia OK” (license OK).
  3. If it happens on the VPS, see “I get E01 or E02 on the VPS”.
“AUREUM E02: sin conexión con el servidor” (no connection to the server)

Most common cause: our server was “asleep” and took more than 5 seconds to answer. At the end of the line you'll see “(err 5202)” (timeout), “(err 5201)”, “(err 5203)” or “(HTTP 5…)”.

  1. Don't do anything: the robot retries on its own: it waits 1 minute, then 5, then 30, and after that it tries every hour. To speed it up, F7 → OK.
  2. If it lasts more than a few minutes, check that you have internet and that MT5 is connected to the broker (numbers at the bottom right).
  3. Run the checker: test 1 tells you whether the server answers from your MT5. If you have an antivirus or firewall that filters connections, allow MT5 to connect to servidor-aureum.onrender.com.

If you see “AUREUM: fallo de renovación (E02 …), se mantiene la gracia hasta …” (renewal failed (E02 …), grace period kept until …), it isn't a failure: the robot keeps trading on its 72-hour permit and retries on its own.

“AUREUM E03: licencia inactiva” (license inactive)

Cause: the server answered that this key can't trade on this account. There are three possibilities:

  1. Mistyped key. F7 → Inputs → paste the full key from the email, with no spaces.
  2. Subscription expired or deactivated (ended or unpaid). Check it at homeaureum.com/en/license (Status tab) or in the billing portal.
  3. Key already used on another MT5 account. It becomes linked to the first account where it's activated. If you've switched accounts or brokers, unlink it yourself at homeaureum.com/en/license → “Switch MT5 account”.

To find out which one it is, run the checker: test 5 tells you the key's status and whether this account is linked.

“AUREUM E04: respuesta del servidor no válida” (invalid server response)

Cause: something between your MT5 and our server returned a response the robot doesn't recognize as ours: a proxy, a network that asks you to accept terms (a hotel's, for example), an antivirus that inspects the connection, or your computer's clock being way off (then the line ends in “(token ya caducado (reloj?))”, token already expired: clock?).

  1. Set your computer's date and time to automatic.
  2. Wait for the next retry or press F7 → OK.
  3. If it keeps happening, run the checker (tests 1 and 6) and write to us with the Experts screenshot.
It's on the chart but not trading
The “Algo Trading” button is red (or the robot's icon is gray or crossed out)
  1. Click the “Algo Trading” button on the top toolbar to turn it green.
  2. Press F7 on the chart → Common tab → check “Allow Algo Trading” → OK.
  3. Does it turn itself off? In Tools → Options → Expert Advisors, look at the boxes “Disable algorithmic trading when the account has been changed”, “… when the profile has been changed” and “… when the charts symbol or period has been changed”. If they're checked, MT5 turns it off every time you do one of those things. You can uncheck them, or just remember to turn it back on.
  4. Using the MetaTrader VPS? Then this is correct: when you migrate, MT5 turns it off on your computer so it doesn't trade twice. Don't turn it on.
“Trade disabled” in the Journal (or “RetCode:10017”)

Cause: the robot tried to trade, but the broker doesn't allow it on that account or at that moment. It isn't an AUREUM fault. You'll see it like this:

failed buy stop 0.01 XAUUSD at … [Trade disabled]
Alert: The order request could not be completed. Error no.: 0 - RetCode:10017
  1. You logged in with the investor password (the “read-only” one). With it you can see the account, but you can't trade. Log in again with the trading account's main password (step 1, “Connect MT5”).
  2. The account is blocked or restricted by the broker or by the prop firm (for example, after hitting a daily loss limit). Look in the Journal for a “trading has been disabled” line followed by the reason, and ask your broker.
  3. That symbol can't be traded on your account (sometimes there are several “golds” and only one of them is tradable on your account type). Ask your broker which one to use and put AUREUM on that chart.

Similar: “[Market closed]” means the market was closed (weekend or holiday). That's normal and there's nothing to do.

“Not enough money to send order…”

Cause: there isn't enough free margin for that trade's lot. The robot doesn't open it.

Alert: Not enough money to send order with 0.10000000 lot or Margin Calculation Error
  1. If you're on LOT_MANUAL with a high mmLots: F7 → Inputs → set Modo de lote (lot mode) to LOT_REFERENCIA (or lower mmLots using the table in step 5) → OK. If you use a VPS, synchronize afterwards.
  2. If you're already on LOT_REFERENCIA, your capital isn't enough even for the broker's minimum lot, or other open trades are tying up the margin. Deposit a bit more or wait for them to close.
“Invalid stops” or “… at incorrect price … (this is NOT an error)”

“… tried to place … at incorrect price … (this is NOT an error)” in Experts: as the message itself says, it isn't an error. The robot calculated an order that no longer made sense at that moment's price and didn't place it. There's nothing to do.

“[Invalid stops]” in the Journal: the broker rejected the order because the stop or the target was too close to the price (it happens when the price moves very fast). If it shows up now and then, it's normal: the robot recalculates on the next candle. If it shows up on every candle for days, write to us with a screenshot of the Journal.

It's gone hours (or days) without opening a single trade

That's normal. AUREUM works on 1-hour candles and only enters when its conditions are met: it doesn't trade every candle or every day. On top of that, the gold market closes on the weekend (from Friday night to Sunday night). “Order with these parameters already exists” in Experts just means it already has a trade open and won't open another one.

If the 30-second check comes out fine (icon not crossed out, button green, “licencia OK”, connection with numbers), it's working.

It was working and suddenly stopped
  1. Is it the weekend or a holiday? The market is closed; it resumes on its own.
  2. Look at the top left of the chart: if it says “AUREUM E0x: …”, the code tells you the cause (drop-downs above).
  3. Check the “Algo Trading” button (see above) and that MT5 is connected to the broker.
  4. Did the computer restart or go to sleep? Open MT5 and go through step 6.
  5. Is your subscription still active? If it's canceled or unpaid, the robot switches to E03.
  6. If everything is fine and it keeps happening, run the checker and write to us with the screenshot.
VPS and multiple installations
It trades twice: duplicate orders or trades

Cause: AUREUM is active in two places with the same account: two charts, two computers, or the VPS and your computer at the same time.

  1. If you use the MetaTrader VPS: on your computer, set “Algo Trading” to red or close MT5. Only the VPS should trade.
  2. In every MT5 where you have your account, right-click the chart → “Expert List”: AUREUM must appear on only one chart of only one active installation. Remove the extra ones.
  3. Check the Trade tab for duplicate orders and close or delete them yourself.
The migration to the VPS failed

Open your MT5's Journal and look for the “Virtual Hosting” lines. Depending on what they say:

  1. “cannot add 'SqADX'” (or another Sq… name), with “failed to load program (546)” and “synchronization failed, cannot collect files”: that indicator is missing from MQL5 ▸ Indicators. Copy everything in the package's Indicators folder (step 2, part C); copying only the one it names isn't enough, because it would then ask for the next one. Restart MT5, run the checker (test 2 OK) and synchronize again.
  2. “Migration to virtual hosting failed: DLLs are not allowed.”: AUREUM doesn't use DLLs, but some other robot or indicator on your charts does. Remove it from the charts and synchronize again.
  3. Your account uses a one-time password (2FA/OTP): MetaTrader doesn't allow those accounts on the VPS. Turn it off at your broker if they let you, or use a Windows VPS (alternative).
  4. “You cannot synchronize your current trading environment with hosting … unless you login to trade account …”: you're connected to another account. Connect to the account you rented the VPS for.
  5. “nothing to synchronize, no any EA or custom indicator”: the robot wasn't on the chart. Put it on the gold H1 chart (step 5) and synchronize.
  6. “synchronization failed, cannot collect charts”: put the robot back on the chart and synchronize again.

To synchronize again: Navigator → Accounts → right-click your VPS → “Synchronize experts, indicators”.

I can't find “Register a Virtual Server”
  1. Open the Navigator (Ctrl+N) and expand Accounts: inside is your broker's server and, under it, your account number. You have to right-click your account number, not “Accounts” or the server's name.
  2. MT5 has to be connected to that account (numbers at the bottom right): the VPS is rented for the account that's connected.
  3. Alternative: the Tools → MQL5 Virtual Hosting menu.
  4. It only exists in the desktop MT5 (Windows or Mac): not in the phone app or the web version.
It won't let me rent the VPS (list or payment error)
  1. “failed to get list of virtual hosts” in the Journal: MT5 couldn't load the list of servers from MQL5. Check your login and password under Tools → Options → Community and try again later.
  2. “error with payment system” or “not enough money on account”: you chose to pay with your MQL5 balance and you don't have any. Pay by card.
  3. You can only rent it from the desktop MT5 (Windows or Mac), not from the phone app or the web version.
I get E01 or E02 on the VPS
  1. E01 (err 4014): the URL wasn't allowed on your computer when you migrated. In your MT5: step 3 → OK. Then: Navigator → right-click your VPS → “Synchronize experts, indicators”. The permission travels with the sync.
  2. E02 right after migrating or synchronizing: the VPS has just restarted and our server may take a while to wake up. Wait a few minutes: the robot retries on its own. Then request the log again with “Journal Viewer”.

If that log shows “AUREUM: no se pudo guardar la gracia (err …)” (couldn't save the grace permit), it isn't a failure: the robot keeps trading on the permit it holds in memory.

How do I know the VPS is still trading, days later?
  1. From your phone: the MetaTrader 5 app with your account shows you the trades the VPS opens. And the traffic light at homeaureum.com/en/license should be green (with MT5 closed on your computer, so it tells you about the VPS).
  2. From your computer: request the VPS's Experts log (part E). AUREUM writes “licencia OK” when it starts and whenever its status changes: a day with no new lines isn't a bad sign; an “AUREUM E0x” line is (look it up in this section).
  3. Going a day or several without trades is normal (see this problem).
I changed computers or accounts

New computer, same account: the license goes with the account, not with the computer. Do steps 1 to 6 on the new one. First, remove AUREUM from the old one (or close MT5 there) so it doesn't trade twice. If you use the MetaTrader VPS, you don't need to reinstall anything for it to keep trading. But if one day you want to change something from the new computer, first set up the gold chart with AUREUM and your inputs there: if you synchronize without the robot on the chart, the VPS is left empty.

New account (or another broker):

  1. Unlink the old account at homeaureum.com/en/license → “Switch MT5 account” (once every 30 days on the base plan; unlimited on Premium).
  2. Connect MT5 to the new account (step 1, “Connect MT5”) and repeat steps 4 and 5.
  3. If you use the MetaTrader VPS: each VPS is for one account only. In your mql5.com profile → Hosting → gear icon → “Move” it to the new account, and then migrate again from your MT5.
Mac only
“Go to Folder…” says the folder doesn't exist
  1. Use the “Copy” button in step 2 and paste the path: typed by hand, it's easy to get a space wrong.
  2. Have you opened MT5 at least once? The folder is created the first time it starts.
  3. Your MT5 may be a broker-branded version that names its folder differently. In Finder, Go → Go to Folder… → paste ~/Library/Application Support/ → look for a folder whose name starts with net.metaquotes.wine. → go into drive_c ▸ Program Files → the MetaTrader folder → MQL5.
  4. If there's no folder like that, MT5 isn't installed, or MT4 was installed by mistake: go back to step 1.
MT5 is slow or quits on my Mac
  1. The most convenient fix: the MetaTrader VPS. Your Mac only has to hold out while you migrate; after that AUREUM trades in the cloud and you can close MT5.
  2. Close the charts you're not using.
  3. Check the Wine version: it shows up in one of the first lines of the Journal when MT5 starts (“… on Wine X.X …”). If it's older than 8.0.1, MetaQuotes recommends uninstalling MT5 and installing it again with its current official installer. Then do steps 2 to 5 again: you have the files in the ZIP.
macOS won't let me open the MT5 installer

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the notice about the blocked app and click “Open Anyway”. The official MT5 needs macOS Catalina (10.15.7) or later; if your Mac is older, use your broker's installer or a Windows VPS.

F7 does nothing on my MacBook

On Mac keyboards, the F keys control brightness, volume and so on. Press fn+F7 with the chart selected.

I can't paste into MT5 (or I don't know how to “right-click”)
  1. Right-clicking on a Mac: on a trackpad, click with two fingers; with any mouse or trackpad, hold down the Control key while you click.
  2. Pasting inside MT5: right-click → Paste. If you use the keyboard, inside MT5 the shortcuts use Ctrl, not Cmd.
  3. Before you paste, the box has to be in edit mode (double-click it, so the cursor is blinking).

About your license Your license is linked to your MT5 account: the first account where you activate 33526_AUREUM becomes linked to your key (the Premium plan allows up to 3 at once). It's a subscription that renews automatically; if it's canceled or unpaid, the algorithm stops opening trades. Need to switch accounts? Do it yourself at homeaureum.com/en/license, or write to us and we'll handle it.
